Despite being covered, rainwater is believed to have seeped into several stacks, increasing the risk of damage to the grain. In some places, the bags are stored directly on the ground, making them vulnerable to moisture from below as well. The incident has once again highlighted a long-standing issue: despite years of paddy procurement operations at Tukla, a permanent mandi or modern storage facility has yet to be established. Farmers allege that while the problem recurs every year, the concerned authorities have failed to take any concrete steps beyond offering assurances. Paddy cultivation involves months of hard work, financial investment, and constant struggle against unpredictable weather conditions. Farmers say it is disheartening that after successfully producing and delivering their crop to the mandi, they still have to worry about its safety due to inadequate storage arrangements. Delayed lifting of procured paddy has further aggravated the situation. Large quantities of paddy continue to remain piled up in the mandi for days, and the recent rainfall has intensified fears of quality deterioration and possible deductions during assessment. Farmers are concerned that moisture damage could affect the value of their produce and lead to financial losses. According to local farmers, although procurement has been completed, transportation and lifting of paddy are not taking place within the stipulated timeframe. As a result, thousands of bags remain stranded in the open, exposed to the elements. Sunday’s rainfall has only deepened their anxiety. Agriculture remains the backbone of the rural economy, and ensuring the safety of farmers’ produce is a fundamental responsibility of the administration. However, the prevailing conditions at the Tukla mandi suggest significant shortcomings in both storage management and procurement logistics. Farmers have demanded the immediate construction of a permanent warehouse and a modern mandi infrastructure at Tukla. They have also called for the prompt lifting of the accumulated paddy stocks to prevent further losses and safeguard their produce. The questions being raised by farmers are simple yet significant: If paddy worth months of labour is damaged while lying in a government procurement centre, who will be held accountable? And when will Tukla Mandi finally receive a permanent solution to this recurring problem? Even moderate rainfall has led to severe waterlogging on several roads and lanes, disrupting normal life and exposing long-standing deficiencies in drainage and road maintenance. The stretch from Gudia Chhak to the Tahasil Office, one of the town’s main roads, has become a major concern as rainwater continues to accumulate for extended periods. Residents allege that the recurring problem reflects the failure of both the district administration and the Public Works Department (PWD) to implement effective and lasting solutions. According to local residents, the issue resurfaces every monsoon despite repeated complaints over the years. Even short spells of rain leave portions of the road submerged, hampering traffic movement and causing significant inconvenience to school students, traders, government employees, senior citizens, and daily commuters. Locals claim that although the road falls under the jurisdiction of the PWD, little attention has been paid to its repair, elevation, or the development of an adequate stormwater drainage system. Existing roadside drains are reportedly clogged with silt, mud, and garbage, preventing proper water discharge and resulting in persistent waterlogging. Residents further allege that despite bringing the matter to the attention of the concerned authorities on multiple occasions, they have received only assurances with no visible action on the ground. Questions are also being raised about the utilization of funds reportedly allocated each year for road maintenance and drain cleaning, as the expected improvements remain absent. The stagnant water has also increased the risk of accidents. Hidden potholes beneath the water pose a serious threat to two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Moreover, prolonged water accumulation is creating favorable conditions for mosquito breeding, raising concerns about the spread of vector-borne and other infectious diseases. Citizens argue that while ambitious claims are often made regarding urban development and civic amenities, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The lack of a functional drainage system on a major road has sparked concerns about the quality of planning and implementation in the town’s infrastructure development. Demanding immediate intervention, residents have called for the cleaning of drains, permanent road repairs, and the construction of a modern drainage network to address the problem at its root. They have also warned that if concrete measures are not taken soon, they may be compelled to launch a public agitation. The focus now shifts to whether the district administration and the PWD will respond to the growing public dissatisfaction and take meaningful steps to free Sinapali from its recurring waterlogging crisis.

District-Level Project Tour Showcases Development Initiatives in Nuapada Nuapada, Reporter: Bijay Bariha As part of the Odisha Government’s “Bikashara Dhara Odisha Sara” campaign marking two years of the state government’s tenure, a district-level Project Tour (Prakalpa Parikrama) was organized in Nuapada under the direction of District Collector Madhusudan Das. The objective of the initiative was to familiarize public representatives and members of different sections of society with the progress of various developmental projects being implemented across the district. A delegation led by Lambodar Dharua, Chief Development Officer-cum-Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Nuapada, visited several key projects, including the under-construction Atal Bus Terminal at Khariar Road, the Model Pond at Mudagaon, Smart Park, Sweta Ganga Project, Turmeric Project, and the under-construction District Cultural Bhavan at Nuapada. During the visit, the team reviewed the progress and quality standards of the ongoing projects. The programme was attended by Zilla Parishad members Bhanupratap Singh Majhi, Uma Thakur, Malyabanta Suna, and Muralidhar Bhoi. Senior citizens Sitaram Meher, Narendra Mishra, and Sushanta Kumar Rana were also present and shared their views on the state government’s developmental initiatives. International Yoga Day Observed at Sinapali and Gandabahali Sinapali Reporter: Malaya Meher International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Sinapali and Gandabahali in Nuapada district, highlighting the importance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental well-being. A block-level yoga gathering was organized at the Gayatri Shakti Peeth in Sinapali through the joint initiative of the Sinapali Block Administration, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, and Gayatri Shakti Peeth. Secretary of the Yoga Samiti, Naveen Chandra Meher, welcomed the participants. The programme was coordinated by Tehsil In-charge Hrushikesh Meher. Among those present were ABDO Subrata Kumar Parida, BSSO Harekrushna Naik, Assistant BSSO Omprakash Majhi, WEO Sunil Samal, Junior Engineer Lileswar Majhi, Purnachandra Meher, Tulsiram Meher, Manish Patel, Trinath Meher, Priyaranjan Meher, Nandakumar Patra, Khusiram Meher, Banshidhar Jagat, Rajesh Agrawal, and Tarun Kumar Meher. A Brilliant Mind Bids Farewell, Leaving Behind Countless Memories: Jagannath Naik Passes Away Sinapali, Reporter: Malaya Meher The untimely demise of Jagannath Naik, widely regarded as a symbol of education, intelligence, and dedication in the Singjhar region, has cast a deep shadow of grief across the area. A worthy son of Godal village and the topper of the 1991 batch of Singjhar High School, Jagannath Naik was admired and respected for his academic excellence, perseverance, and simple way of life. From his student days, he displayed exceptional talent and academic brilliance. During his time at Singjhar High School, he earned recognition as the most outstanding student of the 1991 batch. Later, while serving at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhubaneswar, he set a remarkable example of sincerity, integrity, and commitment in the field of education. According to his colleagues, friends, and former classmates, Jagannath Naik was not only an academically gifted individual but also a humble, compassionate, and socially committed person. His untimely passing has been described by many as an irreparable loss to the Singjhar High School family, the educational community, and the region as a whole. His demise has brought profound sorrow to Godal village and the entire Singjhar area. Several eminent personalities, former students, and social workers have paid heartfelt tributes to him and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. People across the region believe that the story of Jagannath Naik’s hard work, perseverance, and achievements will continue to inspire future generations. Prayers have been offered to Lord Jagannath for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
