He was undergoing treatment at Shri Narayana Hospital in Raipur, where he breathed his last on Wednesday night despite prolonged medical care. His mortal remains will be brought to his ancestral village, Buddhikoman under Komna Block, where his last rites will be performed. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, and other grieving family members. Raj Kiran Singh Deo was admired for his integrity, humility, gentle nature, and ever-smiling personality. Throughout his career, he remained committed to truthful and responsible journalism, earning the respect and affection of people from all walks of life. Demanding the resolution of several long-pending issues, Block Grant teachers and staff of Boden Block in Odisha’s Nuapada district staged a protest demonstration in front of the Block Office on Thursday. Later, they submitted a five-point memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through Boden Block Development Officer (BDO) Chinmay Sagar. According to the teachers’ association, all eligible schools and colleges should be brought under the Grant-in-Aid (GIA-in-Fold) system. They also demanded that teachers and non-teaching staff of newly aided educational institutions be provided with pension benefits and other service entitlements. The association further urged the government to formulate a permanent policy for the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff in newly aided schools and colleges from the initial stage, increase the retirement age from 60 to 62 years, and remove anomalies in the grade pay structure. Following the protest, a delegation of teachers met BDO Chinmay Sagar and handed over the memorandum. The BDO reportedly assured the delegation that their demands would be forwarded to the State Government for necessary consideration. The protest was attended by Teachers’ Association Secretary Simanchal Das, Binod Bihari Majhi, Purna Chandra Hans, Lingaraj Kata, Kashiram Dandsena, along with a large number of Block Grant teachers and staff, who appealed to the government for the early fulfilment of their demands.

In a heartening example of prompt administrative action and effective legal outreach, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Nuapada, in coordination with the Khadial Taluk Legal Services Committee (TLSC), has facilitated the distribution of tricycles to two differently-abled persons from Jharsaram village under Birighat Gram Panchayat in Khadial Block. The beneficiaries, Nepura Majhi and Phanidhar Majhi, received the mobility aids following the timely intervention of the legal services institutions. The initiative was triggered after Kshirasindhu Sagaria, a Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) attached to the Khadial TLSC, brought their difficulties to the notice of the DLSA. Acting swiftly on the matter, Ms. Navneeta Dash, Secretary, DLSA Nuapada, communicated with the Khadial Block Administration, urging immediate assistance. Responding without delay, the block administration arranged and handed over two tricycles to the beneficiaries. Expressing their gratitude, Nepura Majhi and Phanidhar Majhi said the tricycles would significantly improve their mobility, make everyday activities more convenient, and enable them to lead a more independent and dignified life. The initiative reflects the growing role of the District Legal Services Authority beyond providing free legal aid. By facilitating access to government welfare schemes and extending support to vulnerable sections of society, the DLSA continues to strengthen social justice, rehabilitation, and inclusive development at the grassroots level.

Sinapali, The price of the highly sought-after wild termite mushroom, a seasonal delicacy available during the monsoon, has skyrocketed in Sinapali market, touching ₹400 per kilogram. The sharp rise, driven by limited supply and strong consumer demand, has become a major talking point among local residents and buyers. Termite mushrooms naturally grow near termite mounds during the rainy season and are widely cherished for their unique flavour, aroma, and nutritional value. Every year, they attract a large number of buyers across the region. However, this season, the availability of the mushroom has remained limited, while demand has increased significantly, resulting in an unprecedented surge in prices. Many consumers visiting the market expressed concern over the steep price hike, saying that compared to previous years, the mushroom has become too expensive for ordinary families to afford. On the other hand, traders attributed the price increase to the widening gap between supply and demand, stating that fewer quantities are reaching the market this year. The sudden increase in prices has sparked discussions among residents over the possible reasons behind the shortage. Some believe it may be due to inadequate rainfall affecting natural growth, while others attribute it to reduced production and growing demand. With the monsoon season still underway, consumers are now hoping that increased availability in the coming weeks will bring prices down. Until then, the soaring price of termite mushrooms remains one of the most discussed market issues in the Sinapali region.

Nuapada, August 5: Continuing its crackdown on the illegal liquor trade and smuggling, the Nuapada Excise Department carried out a special enforcement drive on Wednesday in Deodhara Gram Panchayat under Komna Police Station limits, following the directions of the District Excise Superintendent. During the raid, the excise team seized 30 litres of beer, 10 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 8 litres of I.D. liquor, 23 litres of O.S. liquor, and 150 litres of date palm toddy. In total, 221 litres of various types of liquor were confiscated. Five persons allegedly involved in the illegal trade were arrested, and cases were registered against them under the provisions of the Excise Act. The accused were later produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. The raid was led by Excise Inspector Hirabati Thati, with active participation from Excise Sub-Inspectors Brundabati Bhua, Mangal Chhatria, and other excise personnel. Officials stated that the Excise Department will continue to conduct surprise raids and take stringent action against those involved in the illegal manufacture, sale, and smuggling of liquor across the district to curb such unlawful activities.
