The Upper Indravati Left Canal Division has begun constructing a bypass road after a news report highlighted the plight of commuters caused by a weak bridge on the Khuntia–Mirzapur road in Kokasara block of Kalahandi district. According to local residents, the deteriorated bridge had forced the Canal Department to close the road, creating severe inconvenience for villagers, students, and daily commuters. As a result, people had to travel nearly two kilometres through the Biju Expressway to reach their destinations. The alternative canal road had also become muddy and slippery due to continuous rainfall, making movement difficult for pedestrians and causing vehicles to get stranded frequently. The issue was reported by local journalist Rupendra Sunani on Kalinga 24 News two days earlier. Following the news coverage, the Upper Indravati Left Canal Division responded promptly and initiated the construction of a bypass road as a temporary solution. Residents have welcomed the department's swift response, expressing hope that the bypass road will provide much-needed relief to villagers and students until a permanent solution is implemented. They also thanked the Canal Department for taking immediate action. At the same time, locals have urged the authorities to expedite the tender process for demolishing the unsafe bridge and constructing a new permanent bridge to ensure safe and uninterrupted connectivity in the area.

Boden: In a shocking incident that has brought shame to the sacred bond between a father and son, a 35-year-old man allegedly beat his 65-year-old father to death with a brick at Baglor Kutia Pada under Boden police station limits in Nuapada district. The incident, reportedly fuelled by alcohol and a family dispute, has sent shockwaves across the locality. The deceased has been identified as Bhushan Majhi (65), while the accused son is Binod Majhi (35). According to local sources, Binod allegedly returned home in an intoxicated condition late Wednesday night after an altercation with his wife. He subsequently got into an argument with his father over an unspecified issue. In a fit of rage, he allegedly picked up a brick lying inside the house and repeatedly struck his father on the head and face. The elderly man sustained severe injuries and suffered heavy bleeding. He reportedly died on the spot. What makes the incident even more disturbing is that after the alleged killing, the accused did not immediately flee the house but remained near his father’s body. Neighbours who came to know about the incident informed Boden police. On receiving the information, a police team led by Boden police station IIC Dharmendra Bhoi rushed to the spot. A scientific team also visited the scene and collected necessary evidence as part of the investigation. Police seized the body and sent it to Boden Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further legal formalities will be completed after the autopsy, police said. A murder case has been registered at Boden police station, and the accused has been arrested. He will be produced before the court and sent to judicial custody, police said. Further investigation into the incident is underway. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Baglor Kutia Pada. Villagers described the deceased as a quiet and peace-loving person. Locals also alleged that the accused had a history of quarrelling with family members and was frequently under the influence of alcohol. The gruesome incident has once again raised concerns over the devastating consequences of alcohol abuse and domestic conflict. A son, who is expected to become his father’s support in old age, allegedly turning into the cause of his death has left the community deeply disturbed. ରାଉରକେଲା ୨୦/୮, ଝାରସୁଗୁଡ଼ା ଜିଲ୍ଲା ଉଷୁ ସଂଘ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ୩୨ତମ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ରାଜ୍ୟସ୍ତରୀୟ ଉଷୁ ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତା ଚଳିତ ଅଗଷ୍ଟ ୨୧ରୁ ୨୩ ତାରିଖ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ବେଲପାହାଡ ହୋଟେଲ ସନସିଟି ପ୍ୟାଲେସ୍ ଠାରେ ଆୟୋଜିତ ହେବ। ଏହି ରାଜ୍ୟସ୍ତରୀୟ ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତାରେ ସମଗ୍ର ଓଡ଼ିଶାରୁ ପ୍ରାୟ ୩୫୦ ଜଣ ପୁରୁଷ ଓ ମହିଳା ଖେଳାଳି ବିଭିନ୍ନ ବର୍ଗରେ ଅଂଶଗ୍ରହଣ କରି ନିଜର ପ୍ରତିଭା ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନ କରିବେ। ସ୍ପୋର୍ଟସ୍ ଉଷୁ ଆସୋସିଏସନ୍ ଅଫ୍ ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ (SWAS)ର ନେତୃତ୍ୱରେ ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ ଜିଲ୍ଲାରୁ ୪୫ ଜଣ ଖେଳାଳି ଓ ୩ ଜଣ ଅଧିକାରୀ ଏହି ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତାରେ ଅଂଶଗ୍ରହଣ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ବେଲପାହାଡ଼ ଅଭିମୁଖେ ଯାତ୍ରା କରିଛନ୍ତି। ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ଉଷୁ ସଂଘର ସାଧାରଣ ସମ୍ପାଦକ ସୁଜନ ରଥ ସୂଚନା ଦେଇ କହିଛନ୍ତି ଯେ, ଏହି ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତାରେ ସ୍ୱର୍ଣ୍ଣ ପଦକ ହାସଲ କରୁଥିବା ଖେଳାଳିମାନେ ଚଳିତ ବର୍ଷ ହେବାକୁ ଥ‌ିବା ଜାତୀୟ ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତା ପାଇଁ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ଉଷୁ ଦଳରେ ନିଜର ସ୍ଥାନ ସୁରକ୍ଷିତ କରିପାରିବେ। ସୁଜନ ରଥ ଆହୁରି କହିଛନ୍ତି ଯେ, ଏଥର ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତା ପାଇଁ ଖେଳାଳିମାନେ ବହୁତ ଜୋରଦାର ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତି କରିଛନ୍ତି। ଖେଳାଳିମାନଙ୍କ କୌଶଳ ଓ ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନରେ ଉନ୍ନତି ଆଣିବା ପାଇଁ ୧୦ ଦିନିଆ ସ୍ବତନ୍ତ୍ର ପ୍ରଶିକ୍ଷଣ ଶିବିର ମଧ୍ୟ ଆୟୋଜନ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ଖେଳାଳିମାନେ ସକାଳ ଓ ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ଉଭୟ ସମୟରେ ନିୟମିତ ଭାବେ ଅଭ୍ୟାସ କରି କଠିନ ପରିଶ୍ରମ କରିଛନ୍ତି। ଗତ ତିନି ବର୍ଷ ଧରି ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ ଉଷୁ ଦଳ କ୍ରମାଗତ ଭାବେ ଚାମ୍ପିଅନ୍ ଟ୍ରଫି ହାସଲ କରିଆସୁଛି । ଚଳିତ ବର୍ଷ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ଚାମ୍ପିଅନ ଟ୍ରଫି ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼କୁ ଆସିବ ବୋଲି ଦୃଢ଼ ଆଶା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି କରି ସଂଘର ଉପସଭାପତି ଟିକା ବାହାଦୁର କହିଛନ୍ତି ଯେ ଦଳ ଏଥର ମଧ୍ୟ ଉତ୍ତମ ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନ କରିବ। ଦଳ ବେଲପାହାଡ଼ ଅଭିମୁଖେ ଯାତ୍ରା କରିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ କ୍ରୀଡ଼ା ଉପନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶକ ସୁଦୀପ୍ତ ନାୟକ, କ୍ରୀଡ଼ାପ୍ରେମୀ ଓ.ପି. ସିଂହ ଏବଂ ରାଇମା କ୍ଲବର ସାଧାରଣ ସମ୍ପାଦକ ବାସୁଦେବ ବାନାର୍ଜୀ ଖେଳାଳିମାନଙ୍କ ସହ ସାକ୍ଷାତ କରି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ମନୋବଳ ବଢ଼ାଇବା ସହ ପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତା ପାଇଁ ଶୁଭେଚ୍ଛା ଜଣାଇଥିଲେ। ସ୍ପୋର୍ଟସ୍ ଉଷୁ ଆସୋସିଏସନ୍ ଅଫ୍ ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ର ସଭାପତି ବିରଞ୍ଚି ନାରାୟଣ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ଏକ ସାମ୍ବାଦିକ ସମ୍ମିଳନୀରେ ଏହି ସୂଚନା ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଛନ୍ତି।

Nuapada, Aug 20: In a major push to improve road safety and reduce accidents, the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) held a crucial meeting at the district headquarters conference hall under the chairmanship of Collector Madhusudan Dash on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed several key issues, including road accident prevention, illegal parking, regulation of heavy vehicles, helmet compliance and strengthening safety measures at accident-prone locations. One of the major decisions was to restrict the entry of heavy vehicles into Nuapada, Khariar Road and Khariar NAC areas during peak hours. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter these urban areas from 7 am to 11 am and 3 pm to 7 pm, with the aim of reducing traffic congestion and the risk of accidents. The Collector also directed Nuapada, Khariar Road and Khariar NAC authorities to arrange cranes for the immediate removal of vehicles parked illegally along roads. The concerned Executive Officers have been instructed to complete the procurement process for the cranes by September 15. Special attention was given to the Biju Expressway, particularly locations where diversions are in place. The Collector stressed the need to strengthen road safety measures at such points and complete repair works at the earliest to prevent accidents. According to data presented at the meeting, between January 2026 and August 20, a total of 3,812 challans were issued for riding or driving without helmets. During the same period, 170 challans were issued for driving under the influence of alcohol. In June 2026 alone, 464 e-challans were issued for various traffic violations, including 167 cases of driving without helmets, 66 cases of overspeeding, six cases of carrying passengers in goods vehicles and four cases of overloading. A total fine of ₹15,51,565 was collected from 401 e-challan cases during the month. The meeting also reviewed the functioning of Helmet Hubs across the district. Discussions were held on regular inspections, availability of first-aid boxes, levelling of paver-block areas and construction of a permanent roof at the Helmet Hub near Panigrahi Petrol Pump. Regular field inspections of the Helmet Hubs by Khariar Road and Khariar NAC authorities were also highlighted. Strict implementation of the “No Helmet–No Petrol” rule was another major focus. The RTO enforcement team will conduct regular inspections at petrol pumps to ensure compliance with the provision. At the beginning of the meeting, Superintending Engineer, R&B, Khariar, Shashank Shekhar Shukla, welcomed the participants and presented the compliance report on decisions taken at the previous DRSC meeting along with the agenda for the current meeting. Additional Collector Subash Chandra Rait, Chief Development Officer, Zilla Parishad Lambodar Dharua, Sub-Collector Surmi Soren, Additional District Medical Officer Dr. Umakanta Meher, Excise Superintendent Sanghamitra Pradhan, R&B SDO Sukanta Gardia, MVI Upendra Pushika, Executive Officers of Nuapada, Khariar and Khariar Road NACs, along with officials from various departments, attended the meeting. The decisions taken at the meeting are expected to strengthen traffic discipline, improve enforcement and create safer roads for commuters across Nuapada district.

Nuapada, Aug 20: With its rich natural beauty, forests, waterfalls, reservoirs, heritage sites and vibrant cultural diversity, Nuapada district is looking to emerge as a prominent tourism hub in Odisha. In this regard, a key meeting with hotel owners and travel agency representatives was held at the district headquarters conference hall under the chairmanship of Collector Madhusudan Dash. Welcoming the participants, the Collector highlighted the immense tourism potential of Nuapada and stressed the need to showcase the district’s attractions in a systematic and professional manner. He called for coordinated efforts to develop tourism as a major economic sector, with the potential to generate employment and strengthen the local economy. The meeting focused on promoting major tourist destinations including Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary, the picturesque Patora Reservoir, Godhas and Beniadhus waterfalls, and the historic Pataleshwar Temple at Budhikomna. The administration also proposed developing a dedicated district tourism website where visitors can access information about tourist destinations, accommodation, transportation and other essential facilities at a single platform. Investment and private-sector participation in tourism development also figured prominently in the discussions. Participants were briefed about the Odisha Tourism (Amendment) Policy, 2026 and the Capital Investment Subsidy available for eligible tourism units. Potential investors interested in setting up new tourism projects can apply through the government’s Go-SWIFT portal and avail themselves of the incentives available under the policy. The Collector also emphasised linking the skills and creativity of local artisans with tourism. By promoting locally made handicrafts and products among tourists, the initiative aims to create additional livelihood opportunities for artisans and give a boost to the local economy. The potential for developing agri-tourism in the district was also discussed. Sustainable tourism and environmental protection were given equal importance. The Collector urged hotel owners to support the creation of a single-use plastic-free environment and play an active role in maintaining cleanliness and the aesthetic appeal of tourist destinations. The meeting also discussed the formation of a coordinated organisation of hotel owners to strengthen cooperation within the tourism sector. ନୂଆପଡ଼ା, ୨୦/୦୮: ପ୍ରାକୃତିକ ସୌନ୍ଦର୍ଯ୍ୟ, ଜଙ୍ଗଲ, ଜଳପ୍ରପାତ, ଐତିହ୍ୟ ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ ବିବିଧତାରେ ସମୃଦ୍ଧ ନୂଆପଡ଼ା ଜିଲ୍ଲାକୁ ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ‘ଟୁରିଜମ୍ ହବ୍’ ଭାବେ ଗଢ଼ି ତୋଳିବା ଲକ୍ଷ୍ୟରେ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ପ୍ରଶାସନ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତି ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଛି। ଏନେଇ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ମଧୁସୂଦନ ଦାଶଙ୍କ ଅଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷତାରେ ମୁଖ୍ୟାଳୟ ସମ୍ମିଳନୀ କକ୍ଷରେ ହୋଟେଲ ମାଲିକ ଓ ଟ୍ରାଭେଲ ଏଜେନ୍ସି ପ୍ରତିନିଧିଙ୍କୁ ନେଇ ଏକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ବୈଠକ ହୋଇଯାଇଛି। ବୈଠକରେ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ କହିଥିଲେ ଯେ, ନୂଆପଡ଼ାରେ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ବିକାଶର ଅପାର ସମ୍ଭାବନା ରହିଛି। ଏହି ସମ୍ଭାବନାକୁ ସୁଚିନ୍ତିତ ଓ ସମନ୍ୱିତ ଢଙ୍ଗରେ ଲୋକଲୋଚନକୁ ଆଣି ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନକୁ ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ଆର୍ଥିକ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ପରିଣତ କରିବା ଆବଶ୍ୟକ। ଏହା ଦ୍ୱାରା ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ରୋଜଗାର ସୃଷ୍ଟି ସହ ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ଅର୍ଥନୀତିକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ନୂଆ ଗତି ମିଳିପାରିବ ବୋଲି ସେ ମତ ଦେଇଥିଲେ। ନୂଆପଡ଼ାର ପ୍ରମୁଖ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ଆକର୍ଷଣ ସୁନାବେଡ଼ା ଅଭୟାରଣ୍ୟ, ପାଟୋରା ଜଳଭଣ୍ଡାର, ଗୋଧାସ ଓ ବେନିଆଧୁସ୍ ଜଳପ୍ରପାତ, ବୁଢ଼ୀକୋମନାର ଐତିହାସିକ ପାତାଳେଶ୍ୱର ମନ୍ଦିର ଆଦିର ବ୍ୟାପକ ପ୍ରଚାର-ପ୍ରସାର ଉପରେ ବୈଠକରେ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱ ଦିଆଯାଇଥିଲା। ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନସ୍ଥଳୀ, ରହଣି, ଯାତାୟାତ ଓ ଆବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ସୂଚନାକୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ କରାଇବାକୁ ଜିଲ୍ଲାସ୍ତରରେ ଏକ ସ୍ୱତନ୍ତ୍ର ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ୱେବସାଇଟ୍ ବିକଶିତ କରାଯିବ ବୋଲି ଜଣାପଡ଼ିଛି। ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଘରୋଇ ନିବେଶକୁ ଉତ୍ସାହିତ କରିବା ନେଇ ମଧ୍ୟ ବୈଠକରେ ଆଲୋଚନା ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଓଡ଼ିଶା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ (ସଂଶୋଧନ) ନୀତି, ୨୦୨୬ ଏବଂ ଯୋଗ୍ୟ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ୟୁନିଟ୍ ପାଇଁ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ପୁଞ୍ଜିନିବେଶ ଅନୁଦାନ ସମ୍ପର୍କରେ ନିବେଶକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଅବଗତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ନୂତନ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ପାଇଁ ଆଗ୍ରହୀ ନିବେଶକମାନେ Go-SWIFT ପୋର୍ଟାଲ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ଆବେଦନ କରି ସରକାରୀ ପ୍ରୋତ୍ସାହନର ସୁଯୋଗ ନେଇପାରିବେ। ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ କାରିଗରଙ୍କ କଳା ଓ ସୃଜନଶୀଳତାକୁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ସହ ଯୋଡ଼ିବା ଉପରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱ ଦେଇଥିଲେ। କାରିଗରଙ୍କ ଉତ୍ପାଦକୁ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟକଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପହଞ୍ଚାଇ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଆୟ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ସହ ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଅର୍ଥନୀତିକୁ ସୁଦୃଢ଼ କରିବା ଏହାର ଲକ୍ଷ୍ୟ। ଏଥିସହ ନୂଆପଡ଼ାରେ ଆଗ୍ରି-ଟୁରିଜମ୍ ବିକାଶର ସମ୍ଭାବନା ନେଇ ମଧ୍ୟ ଆଲୋଚନା ହୋଇଥିଲା। ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ବିକାଶ ସହ ପରିବେଶ ସୁରକ୍ଷାକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସମାନ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱ ଦେବାକୁ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ଆହ୍ୱାନ ଦେଇଥିଲେ। ହୋଟେଲ ମାଲିକମାନେ ସିଙ୍ଗଲ୍-ୟୁଜ୍ ପ୍ଲାଷ୍ଟିକ୍ ବ୍ୟବହାର ହ୍ରାସ କରିବା ସହ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନସ୍ଥଳୀର ସ୍ୱଚ୍ଛତା ଓ ସୌନ୍ଦର୍ଯ୍ୟ ରକ୍ଷାରେ ସକ୍ରିୟ ସହଯୋଗ କରିବାକୁ ସେ କହିଥିଲେ। ଏଥିସହ ହୋଟେଲ ମାଲିକଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସମନ୍ୱୟ ବଢ଼ାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଏକ ସଂଗଠିତ ମଞ୍ଚ ଗଠନ ଉପରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ମତବିନିମୟ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ବୈଠକରେ ଅତିରିକ୍ତ ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ସୁବାସ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ରଇତ, ଉପଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ସୁର୍ମି ସୋରେନ, ବନଖଣ୍ଡ ଅଧିକାରୀ (ବନ୍ୟପ୍ରାଣୀ) ସମୀର ସାହୁ, ବନଖଣ୍ଡ ଅଧିକାରୀ (ପ୍ରାନ୍ତୀୟ) ଅଜିଜ୍ ଖାନ୍, ଅତିରିକ୍ତ ନିର୍ବାହୀ ଅଧିକାରୀ, ଜିଲ୍ଲା ପରିଷଦ କ୍ଷମାନିଧି ଭୋଇ, ଜିଲ୍ଲା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ ଅଧିକାରୀ ରୋଶନ ଜେନା, ଡେପୁଟି ଜିଲ୍ଲାପାଳ ଶେଖ ନସିମ୍‌ଙ୍କ ସମେତ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ବିଭାଗର ଅଧିକାରୀ, ହୋଟେଲ ମାଲିକ ଓ ଟ୍ରାଭେଲ ଏଜେନ୍ସି ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ଥିଲେ।
