Sinapali, Sept. 9: While the government and district administration are taking various initiatives to promote cleanliness, sanitation and better hygiene in rural areas, the situation along the Gandabahali–Gambhariguda road in Sinapali block presents a contrasting picture.
Large quantities of garbage and waste have reportedly been lying along the roadside near Gandabahali Gram Panchayat for a long period. The accumulated waste has not only affected the aesthetic appearance of the area but has also reportedly caused foul odour and increased the presence of insects, raising concerns among local residents.
The issue has become more serious as school students regularly use this road for commuting. Every morning, children carrying their school bags pass through the area on their way to school. Residents and parents have expressed concern over students being exposed to unhygienic surroundings and foul-smelling waste on a daily basis.
The situation also raises questions about the effectiveness of cleanliness awareness campaigns. While students are taught the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in schools, the sight of garbage piled up along their daily route sends a contradictory message.
Local residents have urged the concerned Gram Panchayat and block administration to immediately remove the accumulated garbage and introduce a regular waste-cleaning system. They have also demanded measures to prevent people from dumping waste along the roadside.
The condition has further raised questions about the monitoring of sanitation arrangements at the grassroots level and the proper utilisation of funds allocated for cleanliness and waste management. Residents have appealed to the administration to inspect the spot and take necessary action at the earliest.
According to villagers, keeping the roadside clean is particularly important because of the regular movement of schoolchildren. They have demanded proper waste disposal arrangements along with awareness drives and strict measures against indiscriminate dumping.
The Gandabahali–Gambhariguda road is more than just a route for local residents—it is a daily pathway for children heading towards education and a better future. However, the heaps of garbage along the road have turned the surroundings into an unpleasant sight.
Now, all eyes are on the concerned Panchayat and block administration. Residents are waiting to see when the garbage will finally be cleared and the road will regain a clean and healthy environment.
A clean village cannot remain merely a slogan; its impact must be visible on every road, street and public space.
