Congress Workers Brave Chest-Deep Floodwaters to Reach Victims; Relief Kits Distributed to 105 Families
Sinapali: In a humanitarian initiative following the recent floods, the Congress party organized a relief programme in the remote villages of Chitarma, Nangal Ghat and Jhola Ghat under Ghatmal Gram Panchayat in Sinapali Block of Nuapada district. Braving chest-deep waters of the Udanti River, Congress workers reached the flood-affected villages, assessed the hardships faced by the residents and distributed relief materials to 105 affected families. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Kamal Charan Tandi, Congress MLA candidate for the Khariar Assembly constituency. Volunteers of the Congress Seva Dal actively participated in the relief operation, distributing essential food items, including rice, pulses and dry rations, to the affected families. Educational materials such as books, notebooks, pens and other study kits were also provided to school-going children to help them continue their education. According to local residents, the villages still lack proper road connectivity, making access extremely difficult. The recent heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the Udanti River, disrupting normal life across the area. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land were damaged, while sand deposits rendered many farmlands unfit for cultivation. Villagers alleged that adequate government assistance has yet to reach the affected communities. On the occasion, Congress leaders demanded immediate improvement of road connectivity, a proper assessment of flood-related losses, and speedy government assistance for affected farmers and families. They stated that standing with people during times of crisis is the true essence of public service. Among those present were Prabin Pattnaik, Town Congress President, Khariar; Buddha Behera, Block Congress President, Khariar; District Secretaries Rajesh Behera and Hemanta Punji; Youth Congress General Secretary Shahrukh Khan; and party workers Gagan Tandi, Pramod Nial, Dharmendra Sahu and Laxmidhar Nial, who actively assisted in the relief programme.
