The 98th death anniversary of Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das was observed with due solemnity at the Sadbhavana Hall in Nuapada on Monday. The tribute meeting was jointly organised by the District Culture Council and the Nuapada District Administration.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Nuapada Collector Madhusudan Dash paid rich tributes to Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, remembering his exemplary life, selfless service, and immense contribution to society. He said that true journalists possess multidimensional abilities and play a vital role in bringing people’s real issues to the forefront while extending constructive support to the administration.
The Collector noted that the newspaper ‘The Samaja’, founded by Gopabandhu Das, was not merely a publication but a powerful movement for public awakening and social service. He emphasised that inspiring the younger generation to study Gopabandhu’s life and follow his ideals would be the most meaningful tribute to the legendary leader.
Renowned educationist Prabodh Kumar Hota, the keynote speaker, highlighted Gopabandhu Das’ contributions to social service, education, journalism, and nation-building. Additional District Magistrate Subash Chandra Rait, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Kshamanidhi Bhoi, and The Samaja District Correspondent Simanchal Mahapatra also paid floral tributes and spoke on Gopabandhu’s philosophy of humanity and public service.
District Culture Officer Ramesh Meher, along with district-level officials from various departments, attended the programme.
The event was coordinated by District Sanitation Coordinator Anil Kumar Lenka, while District Sports Officer Rajendra Prasad Badhai proposed the vote of thanks.
