Teacher Shortage Disrupts Education at Jhagrahi Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya; Hostel Remains Non-Operational, No Playground for Students

Concerns Mount Over the Future of 480 Students; Immediate Intervention Demanded Komna, 03/07 Serious concerns have been raised over the deteriorating academic environment at Jhagrahi Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya in Komna Block of Odisha’s Nuapada district, where a prolonged shortage of teachers and staff has reportedly affected the quality of education. Despite having nearly 480 students enrolled from Classes VI to XII, several key teaching and administrative posts have remained vacant for an extended period, causing growing anxiety among students, parents, and local residents. According to reports, the school has no permanent English teacher, while the posts of Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Music teachers are also lying vacant. In addition, the positions of Vice Principal and Clerk have not been filled, affecting both academic activities and the smooth functioning of administrative work. As a result, students are reportedly being deprived of quality education. Apart from the shortage of teaching staff, the school also lacks its own playground, preventing students from participating in regular sports and extracurricular activities. Parents have expressed concern that the absence of adequate sports infrastructure is adversely affecting the overall physical and personality development of the students. Meanwhile, a 100-bed boys’ hostel and dining hall constructed on the school campus remain non-operational despite the completion of construction. Consequently, students coming from distant areas are unable to benefit from residential facilities, which has also affected their academic performance and convenience. Parents, local intellectuals, and members of the public have urged the authorities to fill all vacant teaching and non-teaching posts without delay, make the hostel operational, and provide a dedicated playground to ensure the holistic development of students and maintain the quality of education. When contacted, Nuapada District Collector Madhusudan Das assured that the school would be inspected at the earliest. He said that the issues would be thoroughly assessed and appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings.
