Major Breakthrough by Khariar Road Police: 21.856 kg of Ganja Seized, One Drug Peddler Arrested

In a major success against narcotics trafficking, Nuapada Police has seized 21.856 kg of contraband ganja and arrested one accused near Punjabipada Chowk under Khariar Road.
According to police sources, at around 1:10 PM on June 27, a team from Jonk Police Station was on routine day patrol when they received reliable information about the illegal transportation of ganja near Punjabipada Chowk. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police intercepted a suspicious individual and conducted a search.
During the search, the police recovered 21 kg 856 grams of ganja from the possession of the accused. The police also seized one mobile phone and ₹150 in cash from him.
The arrested accused has been identified as Thakur Prasad Harpal (36), son of Jamar Harpal, a resident of Bharuapali village under Belpada Police Station in Balangir district.
A case has been registered at Jonk Police Station vide Case No. 231 dated June 27, 2026, under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The investigation is being carried out by Sub-Inspector J.R. Senapati of Jonk Police Station. Police are probing the source and intended destination of the seized contraband and are also trying to identify other persons involved in the drug trafficking network.
Nuapada Police stated that it remains committed to taking strict action against the illegal trade and consumption of narcotic drugs and will continue its intensive crackdown on such activities across the district.
